Karnataka results 'will have no impact on Telangana', thanks people for rejecting divisive politics: KTR

Telangana Minister and senior BRS leader KT Rama Rao (KTR) has said that the results of the Karnataka assembly elections will have 'no bearing' on the Telangana elections scheduled later this year.

He applauded the people of the state for 'rejecting ugly and divisive politics'.

“Just like Kerala Story failed to entertain the people of Karnataka, similarly Karnataka election results will have NO effect on Telangana. Thanks to the people of Karnataka for rejecting ugly and divisive politics. Let Hyderabad and Bengaluru compete healthily for investment and infrastructure creation for the greater good of India. I wish all the best to the new Congress government in Karnataka,” KTR tweeted.

KTR and his father and BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) have been vocal critics of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In Telangana, where the BRS has had two consecutive terms in power since 2014, the BJP is posing a stiff challenge as it seeks to come to power for the first time.

In results announced in Karnataka on Saturday, the Congress defeated the BJP to come to power on its own after a gap of five years. The Congress, led by Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah and state president DK Shivakumar, had a lead of 136 seats as of Saturday evening, well short of the halfway mark of the 113 seats in the 224-member assembly.

The BJP, which had won 104 seats in the 2018 elections, was down to 65 and the JD(S), which had expected to be king in the event of a hung assembly, was left with 19 seats.
